The Home Stretch

Over the last couple of months we have been very busy with preparing to make the transition to Haiti.  There is so much to do with only so much time to do it in.

In April we were able to attend the CCDA Immersion Conference in Chicago.  The purpose of the conference was to learn more about the 8 core concepts of Christian Community Development.  Experienced pastors and ministry leaders spent a considerable amount of time teaching the value and importance of each component in under resourced communities.  As you can imagine, living in a third world country and culture can bring a lot of challenges and difficulties.  This was good training for us as we prepare for our time in Haiti.  While at the conference we visited many different sites in the Chicagoland area that gave us perspective.  Seeing lives and communities changed as a direct result of Christ was so empowering.  We're excited for this next chapter of our lives.

On May 1st we finally put our house up for sale.  This was an event that brought tears and a loss of breath even though we knew it to be necessary.  We weren't sure if we would be able to sell it in such a bad market.  We thought we might end up having to take the step of renting because we don't have the extra cash to bring to the table in selling our house.  Right away we had a few people walk through.  In a week and a half we received our first offer!  We've since agreed on a price!  Pending a good appraisal and home inspection we will be moving out on June 25th!  Please be in prayer for us that the appraisal matches the offered sale price.

With the selling of our home there are so many decisions to be made.  We are currently in the process of trying to figure out what we'll be taking with us and how we'll get it all to Haiti.  Everything else has to either be sold, donated, thrown away, or stored somewhere.  Joy and Hope have done a great job in getting a head start on this.  We also have to figure out where we will transition to on June 25th.  Joy doesn't seem to think that living under the bridge will work.  For all of you who have offered to help us, thank you so much.  We'll keep you in mind!  Once we figure some things out we'll let you know where we'll be.

Josiah and Hope are just about done with school.  Their school has been such a blessing to us.  First, to be able to receive an education in a place where Christ is central has been so good for our kids.  Also, Joy has been able to meet with the teachers and get education info, texts, and supplies for when we're in Haiti in order to keep them on the same track.  They've been such a help to us.  In fact they will be having a spaghetti dinner in July to raise support for us.  Thank you Redeemer family!
It has been so cool to see the Lord working in our lives in such a way that confirms his leading.  There have been many challenging times but through these times He has helped us grow in faith and understanding.

We're looking at moving to Haiti around September 1st.  Everything is falling into place and He continues to provide for us.  We are presently around 90-95% of our support raised.  We are still in need of a few more commitments.  Please consider supporting us by going to www.paulosgroup.org/invest.  Or you can mail a check to:

Grace and Peace
